SHS CHAMPION SWIMMERS

On Saturday February 27th, freshman, Taylor Vargo, became the first female from SHS to become a state swimming champion and the first SHS state swimming champion from SCS (male or female) in more than 50 years. Her time of 1:04.61 in the 100 yard breaststroke earned her top honors. Additionally, she earned 15th place in the 200 yard freestyle.

SPOTLIGHT ON OUR SCS STAFF

After 35 years of continuous service to Sandusky City Schools, Bob Toney, Principal at Adams Junior High School, will be retiring at the end of this school year.  He began his career with SCS as a sixth grade teacher and eventually became a principal at Campbell Elementary School.  Later he became the principal of Adams Junior High, which housed only 7th graders at that time.  This year Mr. Toney became the first principal of the newly consolidated 7th and 8th grade Adams Junior High.

SCS STUDENTS HELP HAITI RELIEF EFFORTS
Student Council organizations from Sandusky High School and Sandusky Elementary Schools collected money over the past month to aid the Red Cross relief effort for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti.  [...click for more]
MILLS THIRD GRADERS RECEIVE 'TRIPLE A' REWARD
The third graders at Mills Elementary who achieved the Triple A Award (Achievement, Attendance, and Attitude) for the 2nd quarter got to go sledding at Mills Golf Course.  In order to make Triple A students must have grades no lower than a "C", good attendance, and good attitude for the nine weeks.   [...click for more]
SANDUSKY CULTURAL CENTER FACULTY SHOW
The Sandusky Cultural Center will showcase the talents of some Erie County art teachers/artists from February 21 through March 28, 2010.  Education is a full time job.  The talented artists within this show choose to take their work home with them and create art outside the classroom.  It is their love for art that motivates their teaching and inspires their students' learning.  SCS artists that will be featured include Sally Roth, Richard Browne, Keith Capizzi, Andrew Shannon, Michele Ziemke, Rosalyn Shepherd and Cheryl Sullivan.

CONGRATULATIONS GRADUATES
On February 8, 2010, the Sandusky Board of Education recognized three students who recently completed their graduation requirements.  Deonne Baker, Dominique Goodwin and Jolene Simmons earned their diplomas and are now Sandusky High School graduates.

NORTH POINT DIGITAL ACADEMY
The North Point Educational Service Center has created the North Point Digital Academy to offer a unique and innovative educational opportunity for area school districts and their students.  Participants remain students of their home school districts while completing coursework online.  The program allows students access to over 250 online courses which enables them to earn credit towards graduation.  Students may opt to take one or more courses through this initiative.  [...click for more]
